“Collagraph”

Food Prints

(4th grade)

For this project, students learned about printmaking and how to create a printing plate to produce their own food-themed prints. Students used scratch-foam boards and dull pencils to “etch” their food images onto their plates. Students learned how to transfer the images using their plates by coloring the plates with magic markers, wetting a piece of paper, and pressing the paper onto their plate, while using their hands to apply pressure to transfer images.

My goal for this lesson was to encourage students to think about their page as a whole and experiment with color, space, and texture.
